We were lucky to meet the “fab 4″ in Califon, NJ on Tues. They are the most delightful gals !
We can’t wait to make a donation to the scholarship fund… and to follow their progress and share their adventures across the country.
Keep up the great work you are an inspiration to us all.
Be safe and happy trails !

For anyone keeping tabs on these inspirational young ladies, after staying the night in our barn (Evergreen, VA) and eating a hearty breakfast this morning 9/27/09, they were dropped off in Concord, VA at about 9:30 AM. We should all aspire to such heights! Wits N Retreat.

Tuey and friends,
I see from the itinerary your Dad sent that you made it to Austin TX. If you decide to go west, Fredricksburg is a really cool place (settled by the Germans 150 years ago thanks to Sam Houston). Again, you are still welcome here in Las Cruces (408-806-2299)
As you go further west, you may pass by El Paso and Juarez, Mx. DO NOT GO INTO MEXICO. That area around Van Horn and El Paso is where “No country for Old Men” took place. Juarez has 5-10 drug murders a DAY; 1500 murders so far this year. We’re only 40 minutes from Juarez and we’ve never been there.
Tourists are especially targeted — and you’ll stand out because you’ll be the only ones. NOBODY goes to Juarez. Even our Hispanic friends from around here don’t go there. This is not the ravings of an over-cautious old fart. Honest, it really is dangerous.

What an honor and joy to meet the “fab 4″ yesterday in Tonto Basin, AZ. They stayed in our kid’s education building for church. We had a delightful time learning about their trip and the adventures along the way. Thanks for letting us be a small part of your journey across the US. Best wishes as you work your way to San Fransisco.

We were delighted to meet these four remarkable young women in our bookstore in Camp Verde, Arizona. What an inspiration to us “old folks.” Makes us wish we were as adventurous and free to travel through small towns, the only way to see the US. We were sad they could not stay with us but they were getting to stay in a hotel which had been comped. We wish them Godspeed and a wonderful continuation of their trip. What a worthy cause as well!

Are you still monitoring this site after 10 months?? Tish and I just realized that we will be staying near your AYF camp by Lake Winny-piss-sake (or something like that). We are traveling across country with the trailer you all stayed in when you were in Cambria, CA last year. We’d love to hear from you.
